A story set in Japan, seemingly supernatural, but with a real, but strange ending. Interesting information about ordinary life in Tokyo.

The Dragon Painter Mary McNeil Fenollosa 9781444458428 Books Reviews

While both descriptive and well written, with well developed characters, and a setting that combines realism with serenity - I was, for the longest time captivated by the immense detail - I must note that this story is in no way an excelent work of art. The plot is all but cleché and the title holds a meaning that is rather incoherent. I can understand, being a writer myself, that writing a story that grasps the attention of the reader and keeps it, is a rather difficult task. Also, it is near impossible to come up with a story that is quite original in style. I, as a writer maintain my full respect of other writers when I say that writing is difficult, and those who aren't astounding writers should be respected for their har work, so for the attempt, I give a solid three stars.
One of the most beautifully written books I've ever read. The descriptions paint a vivid and clear picture of the scenery.
Very interesting book by a Mobile girl who married two different men and lived in Japan with both around the turn of the last century, say at or before 1900.

Portrays an artistic Japanese family with a bright daughter trying to make her way in a society where she had no outward choice in her life and future lifestyle. How she figures her way around a determined father and an acceptable but oblivious artistic spouse to arrive at a life acceptable to her makes the story.

I recommend this book and so does my wife.
